The Maui Butterfly Farm - Which butterflies do we breed?
The Maui Butterfly Farm - Beautiful butterflies for your special occasion...

We don't just breed your standard Monarchs!

The Maui Butterfly Farm is the first butterfly farm in the State of Hawaii to breed Gulf Fritillary butterflies as well as Citrus Swallowtail butterflies and Painted Lady butterflies.

We breed primarily Citrus Swallowtail butterflies as well as small amounts of Monarch butterflies.  Citrus Swallowtails are much larger than Monarchs and with colors of yellow, black, blue and orange, are much more showy and are our most requested butterfly.
(for a photo of a Citrus Swallowtail please see our charities and fundraisers page)

We also breed Painted Lady butterflies- These are from the same family as the Hawaiian Native butterfly, the Kamehameha Butterfly. Please see our Lifecycle Kits page for further information.

Maui Gulf Fritillary side viewGulf Fritillaries are strikingly colored bright orange butterflies are very similar in size to the Monarchs with a wingspan of between 6 to 9.5cm wide. They are bright orange with small black spots on top and have huge shiny silver teardrops on the underside of their wings. When the sun catches these silver teardrops the sight is breathtaking!

A combination release of both the Gulfs Fritillaries/Monarchs or Citrus Swallowtails gives a fantastic display of multiple colors and is highly recommended.
